2023 Season Update

Thank you for your patience as we are a little later than usual opening for the season.

We have a long journey ahead to restore the lighthouse but have great news to share on an important first step of many steps. This summer the renovation of our little lighthouse is in the very capable hands of Randy Spracklin and the Newfound Builders Team. You may know Randy’s work from the HGTV show Rock Solid Builds, and we couldn’t be happier to know that the ongoing restoration of our 153 year-old building is in the hands of a team who are champions for Newfoundland architecture and history.

So, in the ongoing pursuit of restoring this stunning building, we have some changes to how we will operate in 2023 as the building work begins.

Only the front section of the lighthouse will be open during picnic hours this season.

  • Picnics may be picked up at the lighthouse.
  • There will be blankets that you can borrow at the lighthouse.
  • As this is the smaller room at the lighthouse, there is no indoor dining option.
  • Our picnic deliveries are weather dependent – rain and wind being the two main culprits that can prohibit deliveries to the lighthouse.
  • There is a washroom in this building.

Picnics will still be ordered in advance for this season through our online ordering system.

There are two set times for a picnic delivery to the lighthouse and one picnic delivery time within the community of Ferryland, in the area known as ‘The Pool’.

People hike to the lighthouse year-round and Russell of By-side Tours will continue to operate this summer. Ferryland Head and the lighthouse is always a popular picnic place, and we know it will continue to be so.

Thank you for your support as we work through the ongoing restoration of this stunning building. As the work will be ongoing throughout the summer season, understand that some of the construction work may be taking place during your visit.
