2022 Season Update

Lighthouse Picnics has some important updates to announce as we prepare to open for the 2022 season. As we plan for future growth of our Lighthouse Picnics, we are very excited to announce that we have purchased another building which will have a new kitchen to support our existing little lighthouse kitchen.

Our kitchen at the lighthouse has kind of taken over the building, and our plan is to open more space inside the lighthouse dwelling for interpretation and to tell the stories of the lighthouse families over the years.

While the beauty of the lighthouse is its location, it is a wooden structure surrounded by the rugged North Atlantic ocean. Our lighthouse has faced many storms, and these past few years the storms have been more frequent and severe, especially Hurricane Larry. The elements have been tough on our 152-year-old building and it has sustained damage that needs to be repaired.

So for this year, we have made the very difficult decision that our lighthouse dwelling will remain closed to the public. People hike to the lighthouse year-round and Russell of By-side Tours will continue to operate this summer. Ferryland Head and the lighthouse is always a popular picnic place, and we know it will continue to be so.

We will be selling our food items individually, as opposed to a picnic meal for this year. Your food will be delivered to the start of the lighthouse road (the area known as ‘The Pool’) for guests to take with them on their hike to the lighthouse, to the beach or any of the beautiful trails around Ferryland.

This is a year of transition as we do the much-needed repairs to the lighthouse and new kitchen. We hope you understand our need for more time to build a stronger and better future for Lighthouse Picnics.
