Lighthouse Picnics based at Ferryland Lighthouse (built in 1870) offers unique picnic food using the freshest ingredients.

11:30am – 4:30pm Wednesday through to Sunday (closed Monday & Tuesday)



HOW TO FIND US:

Ferryland is approximately a one-hour drive from St. John’s, about 80 kilometres south on Route 10. The Lighthouse is one of the first things you’ll see as you enter Ferryland. As you drive through Ferryland, watch for the road that veers off by the Colony of Avalon Interpretation Centre. Turn here and follow the road towards the water, you will pass the Southern Shore Folk Arts Centre on your left, continue straight until you see a gravel road to your right (Look for our Lighthouse Picnics sign). Start your picnic experience with a walk up the trail and we’ll be waiting for you at the Lighthouse when you arrive.

Where to start

How do I make a reservation?
 Reservations are required for all our guests. Our kitchen is small and all our meals, including breads, salads, lemonades, and desserts, are made fresh every day at the lighthouse, which means we have a limit to how many guests we can serve daily.


Please fill out our Picnic Request Form to make a reservation and we'll take care of the rest to make sure you have the best picnic experience.

How do I place my order?
As our building will not be open this year, orders for our picnics will be taken by email, and someone will call you to confirm your order, the order total and process payment.

How do I pay for my picnic?
 Payment will be taken over the phone or via e-Transfer after you have placed your picnic order.

*Please note there is an additional delivery charge to have your picnic delivered to your vehicle.
How long is the walk?
If you're coming from the metro St. John's area, it should take you about one hour to get here by car. See our Getting Here section for driving directions if you are not sure how to get here!


Once you have parked, hiked over to the hill and head towards the lighthouse. It takes most people between 20 - 40 minutes to walk the gravel trail and there are some inclines so we always recommend you wear comfortable shoes or sneakers for the rugged terrain. We always remind people to take layers, as you never know if temperature or weather will change - we are on the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean.

How do I pick up my picnic?
 When you confirm your picnic (this year that will be confirmed via email or phone), we will instruct you on where you may pick up your picnic. This year there is the option to pick up outside the lighthouse or to have your picnic delivered to your vehicle. *Please note there is an additional delivery charge to have your picnic delivered to your vehicle.

Will picnic blankets be provided this year?
 Unfortunately this year we are BYOB (bring your own blanket).

Is there a washroom available?
 Yes, we do have washroom facilities available for customers.

What if the weather is bad the day of my picnic?
 As our historic building has limited space inside, we cannot provide the option to dine inside this year. If due to weather you would not like to visit the lighthouse to pick up your order, we do have the option of delivery service to your car by BY-SIDE RIDES.
